Summer is almost upon us, it's time to get a break from waking up early, school buses and endless assignments. After enjoying a couple of weeks of rest, you will most surely ask yourself: how can I make the best of all this free time? You should consider including memorable summer camps experiences as part of your plan! The City of Miami offers an ample variety of great options.

Overnight camps (sleepaway)

Camp Guaikinima

Over 30 years of experience organizing camps have made Guaikinima know the perfect formula to combine fun, learning, security and personal growth in one place.  They are located less than an hour from Orlando, spacious rooms with air conditioning and private bathroom, living room, gym and indoor areas for different activities. All this within a beautiful forest, the ideal setting for all the sporting activities they have scheduled (always protected by the personnel of safety and health)

They offer options of 2 and 3 weeks (from July 22nd to August 12th and from 22nd July to 4th August) where they perform canoeing, paintball, football, cooking, adventure camping, bonfires, paddle, among many others.  Prices are US$3398 (3 weeks) and US$2600 (2 weeks), include overnight and all meals.

The Day Camp option is also available in the town of Oleta River State Park, Virginia Key Beach Park and Davie-Broward, on a schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., developed in blocks per week, have a value of US$345 and offer the option of extended daycare  from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a value of US$45


Miami-Dade County Camps

Many camps will open from June 11th to August 10th. Sibling discounts are offered and children with disabilities are encouraged to attend. There are more than 20 options classified into three main categories: nature, sports and the arts. Topics range from fishing and basketball to women's empowerment.

Some camps are open from morning to evening while others remain operational 24 hours a day. Prices vary between $100 and $600, depending on the type of activities you choose.

If your children have an inclination for music, acting or any other type of artistic expression, the following options will most certainly appeal to them.

Modeling Camp Miami

From the 25th to the 28th of July, four days focused on the glamorous world of fashion for girls aged 11 to 17. Makeup sessions, posing for photos, running a catwalk and many other exciting activities for a value of $999. This experience will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Miami Beach, a privileged location, surrounded by retail stores and great restaurants. Accommodation packages for family members of campers are also available.


Art Educational Camp

This camp has been in operation for 11 years. It welcomes children from 6 to 12 years of age. It hosts guests in two main locations: Wynwood, open on July 9, 16, 23 and 30 and Palmetto Bay, open on June 11, 18 and 25 as well as July 9, 16 and 23. Its staff includes certified professionals who will introduce you to charcoal drawing, acrylic painting on canvas, clay sculpting and many other exciting activities. They offer half-day courses for $180 and a full-day package for $340.


Frost Young Musicians’ Camp

Since the year 2000, children and teenagers attracted to music have gathered here to learn, use their creativity and participate in fun and rewarding experiences. It is available to youngsters between the ages of 6 to 18 who are interested in developing as instrumentalists, vocalists or exploring genres as diverse as classical, musical theater, jazz and rock. Prices will vary depending on the activities you wish to explore.

Summer Basketball Camp

From June 11 to July 27, aimed at children aged 5 and above. This busy summer camp includes activities that will help boost your kids' athletic talents and spark their interest in healthier physical pursuits. The schedule starts from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and fees vary between $100 and $160 per week.


IK Gym Summer Camp

Dedicated to children between the ages of 3 and 5. Aerial silk, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, tumbling, acrobatics and martial arts classes are available. You can choose between a part-time or a full-time schedule. The weekly price is $125 and includes healthy lunches and snacks.


Fit Kids of America

This fine camping experience will start from June 11 to August the 10th. It features cheerleading, hip hop dancing classes and sports such as softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer. It provides computer rooms with hardware able to run the most recent video games along with other high-tech resources. Lunches and snacks are included as part of the $88 weekly fee.
