La Mar by Gaston Acurio
Downtown Miami - Restaurant - Peruvian - $$$
500 Brickell Key Drive, Miami, Miami, FL 33131

La Mar is hands down the faithful representation of one of the most eclectic cuisines in the world. At La Mar you can explore the different fusions present in the Peruvian gastronomy: the novo-Andean, the Asian-Peruvian and the traditional seafood ceviche.

In addition to all these features, La Mar boasts a privileged location in Brickell Key, where its atmospheric setting overlooking Biscayne Bay is ideal for a romantic dinner. Taking that occasion into account, our ideal options within La Mar’s culinary proposal for Miami Spice is the following:

  • Starter: SMOKED TIRADITO SALAD: fish of the day, smoked avocado leche de tigre (citrus-based marinade that cures seafood), Jerusalem artichokes, smoked tomatoes, beets.

  • Main Course: CEVICHE DE PATO: traditional dish from the north of peru, “huacho” duck legs cooked with sour orange, yucca, aji amarillo and served with white rice

  • Dessert: The unavoidable CHOCOLATE!  With its delicate LUCUMA FLAN an orange caramel, chocolate air cake and chocolate shards

Coconut Grove - Restaurant - American (New) - $$
3540 Main Highway, Coconut Grove, Miami, FL 33133

Situated in Coconut Grove, this cozy and soothing venue really goes the extra mile to offer a first-grade experience to all its visitors, and we expected the same of the menu for Miami Spice. Our favorite selection let us enjoy a perfect balance of flavors and sensations:

  • Appetizer: HEAD CHEESE CROQUETTES… delicious and steaming, they will go down your palate in the blink of an eye.

  • Main Course: the must-eat CHUG BURGER. It is impossible to miss out on the opportunity of tasting one of the most famed burgers and now we understand why it is so. double Patty cooked to hit the sweet spot to be juicy and crunchy at the same time, covered with melting cheddar cheese, b&b pickles with ariete sauce, say no more!

  • Dessert: FLAN, the perfect closure, silky, lite, and sweet enough just right.

Byblos Miami
Miami Beach - Restaurant - Greek/Mediterranean - $$$
1545 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Miami, FL 33139

Stepping inside Byblos means to step inside the Mediterranean. Byblos’ roomy and luminous atmosphere, in addition to its exquisite culinary proposal, will make you evoke exotic and distant places. This restaurant’s menu is one of the most extensive of Miami Spice. You can choose two appetizers from 10 options to dig into the main course afterwards picking out the side dish of your choice, and then finally wrap it up with a luscious dessert. Our favorite selection was the following:

  • Starters; LAMB RIBS, tender and delicious with dukkah (Egyptian condiment consisting of a mixture of herbs, nuts, usually hazelnut, and spices), buttermilk sauce and red chili shug. We also had a SNAPPER CRUDO, mouth-watering Za’atar with arak pickled cucumber, apple and barazek cookie.

  • Main Course: MIDDLE EASTERN FRIED CHICKEN : crispy, juicy and seasoned with za’atar, tahini and house hot sauce. As side dish we chose a SWEET JEWELED COUSCOUS (carrot, saffron, barberries and almonds).

  • Dessert: LOUKOUMADES, an exotic and extraordinary burnt honey ice-cream where honey, walnut praline and halvas take the spotlight.

Jaya at The Setai
Miami Beach - Restaurant - Asian Fusion - $$$
2001 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Miami, FL 33139

This exotic restaurant, where Asian cuisine reigns supreme, is located at The Setai Hotel Miami. No doubt it will take to the Far East where the flavors of turmeric, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, chilies, coconut milk and tamarind abound. Jaya prepared a menu exclusively for Miami Spice 2018 that makes the selection a tough choice; you want to try out everything. We made an effort to select our dishes, but to tell the truth, any selection we had made would have been equally wonderful. Here the favorite dishes of the evening;

  • Starter:TRUFFLE DUMPLINGS, superb Dumplings perfectly steamed stuffed with scallops, truffle cream emulsion and shaved truffle. We wanted more!.

  • Main Course: TANDOOR SEA BASS, well-cooked Lubina with cilantro, mint, ginger and yogurt, with a garnish of basmati rice and tamarind chutney… simply fantastic!

  • Dessert: PASSIONFRUIT & COCONUT. Presented in an innovative way, this dessert promises a burst of flavors where coconut and passion fruit mix with the mint and mango on a crunchy lace tuille.

Edge Steak & Bar
Brickell - Restaurant - American (New), Seafood, Steakhouses - $$$
Four Seasons Hotel Miami, 1435 Brickell Avenue, Miami, Miami, FL 33131

In Brickell, sitting on the seventh floor of the Four Season Hotel is located this fantastic steakhouse and bar Edge Steak + Bar, a modern proposal of the traditional “farm to table” served in a classy art deco setting. This restaurant is the last we reviewed but it is among our first choices you can’t miss, even more so in the context of Miami Spice 2018.

  • Starter: LAMB AND APRICOT TERRINE; an ideal option for those who love the resulting mix of fruits and meats.
  • Main Course: JERK-SPICED BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP, this succulent meat cut comes with Green mango slaw and smashed sweet potato a la plancha (grilled). The combination of sweetness, bitterness, spiciness and saltiness come together in your palate!
  • Dessert: DARK CHOCOLATE OPERA CAKE, this classic of pastry making could not get a better version than this.

Remember that time is running out, there’s little time for you to treat yourself to one of the best gastronomy experiences ever enjoyed delivering that feeling that only a high-level culinary experience can provide; Miami Spice will stick with you forever, or until the next Miami Spice at least!
