Pérez Art Museum Miami: An Icon of Contemporary Art

Pérez Art Museum Miami: An Icon of Contemporary Art

The Perez Art Museum Miami, PAMM, opened at the end of 2013, has placed Miami on the international creative map as a symbol of Las Americas art.

With more than 20 thousand square meters of construction, this impressive structure integrates architecture and nature. Dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of 20th and 21st century art, its spacious exhibition halls and huge windows, bathe its interior environment with natural light and invite you to enjoy captivating views of Miami.

Pérez Art Museum Miami: Design and Architecture

Considered to be the most modern art museum in Miami and the continent, the structure stands on the shores of Biscayne Bay and occupies part of Museum Park, ideal place for rest and enjoyment of art and nature.

This cultural complex is the work of the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. It has 70 gigantic hydroponic self-irrigating hanging gardens that crown the entire exterior and sides of the Perez Art Museum Miami, PAMM, overlooking the Bay of Biscayne. These cascades of natural plant species, the work of the French landscaper, Patrick Blanc, impresses by its height and the freshness they print to the museum’s open spaces.

Its three stories also houses a library, conference rooms, a movie theater and classrooms for educational programs designed for the youth and student spectators, as the museum is focused on forging the audiences that will keep, for future generations, the legacy of this initiative.

It also has a beautiful souvenir shop, a restaurant and bar integrated with its spectacular outdoor area, where many concerts and activities take place.

PAMM a New Era for Art

The construction of the structure was promoted by real estate developer Jorge Pérez, a well-known art collector, who decided to contribute 40 million dollars to the founding of this museum and donate part of his private collection in which are works by Diego Rivera, José Braulio Bedia Valdés, Roberto Matta, Joaquín Torres García and Wifredo Lam, among others.

His motivation was to give back to Miami the opportunities it offers to the ethnic diversity that makes life in our city with the construction of a modern art center to be the new headquarters of the Miami Art Museum (MAM). In order to compliment the generous gesture of Jorge Pérez, the museum was renamed Pérez Art Museum Miami, PAMM.

Pérez Art Museum Miami, PAMM, is part of the Downtown, Miami, Bayfront Park, Bayside Marketplace, Miami Airlines Arena, La Torre de La Libertad and the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Our city is home to Art Basel, the Art Deco District, the promoter of Wynwood District, Design District, Mimo District. Countless artists, studios and galleries from around the world have settled here, convinced that the creative success in Miami is coming.

Undoubtedly, Pérez Art Museum Miami is the ideal place to renew appreciation for a universal language that  always links, and this is art.
